Starbucks Barista!

I recently had a quick conversation with a close friend who is now staying in the USA. He is just waiting for college to start so I asked him what he was doing there while waiting. He said he already has a job. I was stunned for a bit, then asked, "A job?" Then he explained that he is going to work full-time in Starbucks as a barista. I personally think that's amazing since he's being productive at the moment, but then I wondered how he would focus on his studies if he's working full-time. He quickly answered that once school starts, he'll only work part-time. He immediately explained that a lot of college students in the USA are working part-time too. (I'm not really familiar with the lifestyle of college students there)

Being curious, I asked him how much he earns while working in Starbucks. I fell off my seat when he said $9.50 an hour! Full-time employees work 40 hours a week. The first thing that came to my mind is that he could immediately buy an iPhone (with a 2 year contract in AT&T) in less than a week!!! I was so jealous of him because (as I said in my previous post) I need to earn money to buy myself a new phone! I bet he will be really rich after a few months. I'll keep in touch with him to get more updates about his job and his life there in the USA.

Being desperate that I am, I'm trying to earn money myself(which is why there are ads all over my blog, lol). But as of today, I still have no luck. 0 clicks!

Anyone want to share some experiences related to this? :D feel free to comment.

  1. LOL, $9.50 an hour may sound like alot to you but, depending on "where" you are from, that $9.50 an hour may not necessarily go very far. I'm from Canada myself, and many folks here make (on average) $14 (sometimes more) per hour but, evenso, when you take into consideration the housing costs (not to mention the monthly bills that need paying) even a pay of $14 per hour (here) can really suck. As for your friend, he's in the US, so I'm not sure how that pay will work out for him but I sure do hope it goes farther than a $14 per hour pay does here. Whew, I live on Vancouver Island and the housing costs here are RIDICULOUS, you pretty much have to be making $20 (and upwards) an hour just to "make it by" from week to week. It's crazy, to say the least. I hope your friend has better luck than us Vancouver Islanders do, that's for sure.

Oh, and I wish you luck on making some earnings with your blog, too. I can understand why you are hoping to get those clicks you need and, if you give it some time, I believe you will get them. Whatever you do, don't give up, those clicks will come (sooner or later) and you will be making yourself some money. Make sure you keep on posting regularly and promote your blog everywhere that you can. I can't say how many blog sites you are involved with at the moment but, the more you sign up for, the more likely you will find yourself getting more visitors (and the more visitors you get the more clicks you should get). If you are not sure what I mean by "blog sites", I am referring to places that actually help you "promote" your blog (ie: blogorama, bloghub, blogexplosion, bloggernity...to name a few). If you want or need help figuring out which ones to sign up for, don't be afraid to ask me for some ideas, I'm always glad to help out in anyway that I can.

Anyway, good luck to you, I wish you all the best with your blog and, "fingers crossed", hope that you make yourself some decent cash, too.

Remember...don't give up, it "will" happen sooner or later. ;-)

  2. Thank you for the very informative comment! The $9.50 per hour will do very well for him because he doesn't have to pay rent! He still lives with his family so whatever he earns, he'll keep it to himself. He doesn't need to pay any bills!

You make it sound like living in Vancouver is torture because of the bills! Lol. I wish the best of luck to you!

I still have no luck as of the moment but I'll follow your advice to "promote" and update as often as I can to be able to catch viewers!

    Thanks for dropping by. :D
